The BIG on Bloor Festival of Arts and Culture, one of Toronto’s best and most loved summer street festivals is a two-day, car-free summer street celebration of arts, culture and small business all in the Bloordale neighbourhood (Bloor Street West from Dufferin to Landsdowne).
The 2016 BIG on Bloor Festival of Arts and Culture Feature Events include:
JOUEZ: a memorable and engaging program of all-free projects, where people can spend quality time doing hands-on activities and take part in unique events that develop into shared artworks of experience. These curated projects reflect the diversity and energy of our downtown neighbourhood, by way of accessible multimedia, community platforms and engaging art installation;
HOW WE LIVE IN CITIES - a new ecology hub at the 2016 BIG on Bloor Festival. It dedicates part of the festival as an environmental educational site with a series of participatory, multi-disciplinary art and culture events. The projects explore ways to animate, enhance and improve the experience of living in cities.
THE BIG MARKET PLACE: More than 150 arts, crafts, and information tables!
CARD-YARD: interactive projects stations by artists, architects, poets and social activists, community organizations to create a participation village specifically for Bloordale’s BIG on Bloor Festival, presented by PULP and Senayah Design.
CELEBRATE HERE: performances will be scattered in various locations throughout the festival in local stores, restaurants and bars, as parades, busker stations, and as part of some table stations.
PLAYFAIR: Children’s story telling, exotic animal menagerie, circus acts and aerial displays, hands on cultural exhibits and instructions, feats of daring at our trampoline display, impress your friends and walk on water with “What A Ball”, and of course bouncy castles, popcorn, face painting and much, much more fun including event, activities and projects.
Don’t forget to Savour Bloor in the stores, restaurants, patios, and the Bloordale Food Court; the BIG Awards for Community Appreciation and spend some time After Hours in local Bloordale restaurants and bars!

Now in its 9th year with nearly 100,000 people attending each year, the BIG on Bloor Festival of Arts and Culture runs Saturday, July 23 from 1 p.m. until midnight and on Sunday, July 24 from noon until 6 p.m. Residents and visitors alike can experience a participatory festival with more than fifty original hands-on cultural projects that have been commissioned especially for you! Make something, learn something, engage and enjoy hundreds of distinct musical and theatre acts, art projects, games, poetry, architecture inventions, one-of-a-kind exhibitions and shops.
Big: Bloor Improvement Group is a non-profit coalition of community groups, Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), politicians, artists, schools, service providers, institutions, gardeners, small businesses, residents and neighbours coming together to advance the economic, physical, cultural and social life of the targeted local Bloor Street by creating opportunities and events that improve the atmosphere and celebrate the area.
