Last season’s immensely popular and critically acclaimed show for babies, One Thing Leads to Another, returns to Young People’s Theatre (YPT) by popular demand. An innovative work of theatre commissioned by YPT and created specifically for infants, One Thing Leads to Another transforms everyday objects into fabulous, fanciful phenomena. Developed from an original concept, research and theme by Maja Ardal, this unique work receivedDora Mavor Moore Awards for Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Performance, Ensemble earlier this year. A collective collaboration by Ardal, Audrey Dwyer, Mary Francis Moore and Julia Tribe, One Thing Leads to Another will be presented in The Studio from September 22 to October 8.
As they develop and thrive, babies use all of their senses to learn about the world. In this play, performers engage with YPT’s youngest-ever audience using music, enticing visuals, and tactile experiences. The show features the transformation of every-day objects into fantastical phenomena. When the show is over, kids and caregivers can experiment with objects from the play right on the set – to have their own additional play experience.
French theatre-maker Francoise Gerbaulet has noted, "I am always deeply surprised by the seriousness of infant spectators. Babies do not understand, they absorb - the sound of voices, the music of words… love, they absorb them all... Babies are ideal spectators".
Last year’s run of One Things Leads to Another, which was extended to meet overwhelming audience response, engaged, stimulated and delighted baby and parent alike.Participants will once again sit on mats on the floor enabling adults to interact closely with their infants. YPT will make special arrangements to accommodate parents, including a special stroller station, diaper changing station and a quiet area.
