Mirvish Productions is delighted that at least two Pokéstops have made their home at the Ed Mirvish Theatre but management asks patrons not use your phones during performances of the hit musical MATILDA.
The front-of-house staff at the Ed Mirvish Theatre have noticed a trend in the last months. During performances of MATILDA, many members of the audience arrive earlier than usual, take their seats in the auditorium and sit there staring at their phones during the pre-show. The same is true at intermission.
The staff couldn't quite understand the reason why these audiences are behaving differently than previous ones. Finally, one staff member accidentally saw the phone screen of one of the preoccupied audience members. Turns out he was playing Pokémon GO.
Explains front-of-house manager Marie Holowaty: "We discovered our theatre has two Pokéstops -- one at our Victoria Street entrance and another at our O'Keefe Lane doors. Patrons sitting in the house can access both of them and stock up on Pokéballs and potions. Plus, if they attach lures to these stops, then the Pokémon never stop coming."
Unfortunately this also means that some patrons may be tempted to pull out their phones during the show so as to continue catching Pokémon. To them we say: Don't do it! Put your phones away during the show; there will be more Pokémon after the show. Sit back, let the wonderfully empowering story of MATILDA entertain and delight you. You won't want to miss a single moment.
