DopoLavoro Teatrale (DLT) returns to Toronto with a brand new version of the critically acclaimed walkabout performance The Stranger.
Following sold-out engagements in Europe and India, the acclaimed one-to-one urban-immersive experience The Stranger is back in Toronto by popular demand. The enigmatic production returns September 20 to October 9 with a brand new show, new locations, interactions, and a cast of up to 20 local and international artists.
The Stranger is an immersive and interactive theatrical experience in which the city becomes the stage and the audience becomes the protagonist. Designed for one audience member at a time, this 90-minute journey thrusts participants into a secret world. By following "strangers" into streets, alleyways and undisclosed locations, the downtown is transformed into an urban labyrinth and participants find themselves at the centre of an unfolding narrative that blurs the lines between reality and fiction.
“The Stranger transforms the passive observer into an active agent, gives a voice to the audience and allows each audience member to be creative alongside the artist,” says Daniele Bartolini, Artistic Director, DLT.
In 2014, DLT presented the first, award-winning version of The Stranger at the SummerWorks Performance Festival and returned with a new version in 2015. Recently presented in Vancouver, Canada; Sansepolcro, Italy; and Mumbai, India, The Stranger will travel to Rieti, Italy; New Delhi, India; and Berlin, Germany and more.
About DLT
DLT is an international company founded in 2006 in Florence, Italy by Artistic Director Daniele Bartolini. In 2012, the company relocated to Toronto where Bartolini met Rory de Brouwer, Danya Buonastella and Joslyn Rogers who became core members. DLT is dedicated to innovation and experimental multi-disciplinary artistic practices. The audience has always played a pivotal role in DLT’s work and they have continuously explored the relationship between artist and spectator. DLT productions have grown from theatre shows and installations to fully interactive, urban-immersive creations designed to give a single audience member an active role inside a dramatic structure. DLT presented their first fully immersive creation Midway Along the Journey of Our Life at the SummerWorks Performance Festival in 2013. Other recent works include The Ugly Mess That Happened in St. Catharines at the 2016 In the Soil Arts Festival and the critically acclaimed Off Limits Zone at the 10th Anniversary Luminato Festival.
