The Zoomer Empire welcomes Toronto's hottest Indie Theatre Artists to a brand new live performance venue housed in Moses Znaimer's Zoomerplex. ZoomerLive is an experiment to see if a new intimate venue can be established in The ZoomerPlex, ZoomerMedia’s multimedia production and event facility.
Celebrated playwright Kat Sandler (Dora Award for Outstanding New Play MUSTARD Tarragon Theatre , BRIGHT LIGHTS Best of Toronto Fringe 2016, RETREAT Storefront Theatre, PUNCH UP Best of Toronto Fringe 2015) will be premiering a brand new piece for Zoomer Live’s inaugural production. LATE NIGHT, for which she won the Fringe 24 hour playwriting contest, will feature a soon to be announced all star cast. Set in a T.V studio during the live taping of a veteran late night talk show host’s final episode, the production will incorporate the Zoomerplex’s existing multimedia studio space and live studio audience into the story.
Moses Znaimer, co founder of City TV and current head of ZoomerMedia has teamed up with Sandler in order to give Liberty Village a taste of whip smart live entertainment that will combine the talents of Toronto’s most influential media mogul and its number one rising star playwright. A partnership focusing on the union of boomers and millennials, ZoomerLive will serve as a generational bridge for audiences and creators.
In 1981 Znaimer produced TAMARA, a pre “PunchDrunk” immersive piece about the life of Tamara de Lempika. TAMARA was a critically acclaimed long running, mobile, interactive whodunit where the audience as individuals move from room to room according to their own choices as to the characters and plot(s) they wish to pursue. The New York Times called TAMARA “self-defining” and “a shot of adrenaline for sedentary theatergoers who are accustomed to sitting in the dark and watching actors do all the work”. TAMARA played in Toronto, Los Angeles (where it ran for nine years), New York, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Rome, and Warsaw. Znaimer marks his triumphant return to Toronto’s
theatre scene as a producing force to be reckoned with, presenting what promises to be one of Sandler’s best pieces to date. In the tradition of TAMARA, the audience in LATE NIGHT will be as much a part of the show as the actors.
