Toronto, ON – September 8, 2016: Albert Schultz, Founding Artistic Director of Soulpepper Theatre Company, today announced new details for fall artistic programming as part of Soulpepper’s 2016.2017 season. On stage in September: Michel Tremblay’s dramatic two-hander Hosanna; and Michael Frayn’s ensemble farce Noises Off. Later this fall Soulpepper celebrates Diwali with the return of A Brimful of Asha from Why Not Theatre before the show heads to NYC next summer, and the Ontario premiere of the joyous Piya Behrupiya (Twelfth Night) from India’s The Company Theatre. It has also been announced that dancer and choreographer Shannon Litzenberger has joined the Soulpepper Resident Artist team as Soulpepper’s Resident Dance Artist.
Music programming at Soulpepper continues this fall with volume two of the Manhattan Concert Cycle: Midtown - 42nd Street and Broadway featuring the great Jackie Richardson. Upcoming Saturday Cabarets include: Rochdale College: Peace, Love, Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll from Brendan Wall (September 10); Patricia O’Callaghan: Sweet Songs of Sin and Sorrow (September 17); Raoul’s Blues Interviews III – Paul James from Raoul Bhaneja (September 24); and Sharron Matthews NAKED (October 8).

Called the funniest farce ever written, this classic comedy proves what happens onstage is just the tip of the iceberg. Opening night is just hours away as a misfit company of actors juggle their lines, love lives, and plates of sardines. The cast includes Oliver Dennis, Raquel Duffy, Matthew Edison, Christopher Morris, Oyin Oladejo, Anand Rajaram, Brenda Robins, Myrthin Stagg, and David Storch.
September 21 to October 22. 2016. Opening night is September 29.
Hosanna

This seminal Tremblay work is celebrated in English Canada as much as it is in French Canada. Hosanna returns from the biggest night of her life, dressed as Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra. What follows is a harrowing, and often hilarious and revelatory, journey towards identity. With Damien Atkins and Jason Cadieux.
September 23 to October 15, 2016. Opening night is September 27.

Soulpepper Associate Artistic Director Ravi Jain shares the stage with his mother, Asha, to tell their true (and very Canadian) story of generational and cultural clash. Mother and son present very different sides of the same story, with touching and hilarious results.

A Brimful of Asha runs for five performances from November 1 to 5, 2016. It also heads to NYC in July of 2017.

SOULPEPPER ON THE ROAD
Soulpepper’s Alligator Pie begins a Western Canada tour this fall, heading to Persephone Theatre, Saskatoon, SK (October 15); Vertigo Theatre, Calgary, AB (October 21 - 23); and Manitoba Theatre For Young People, Winnipeg, MB October 26 – November 6).
Soulpepper will also be heading to Port Hope, ON with fall programming at the Cameco Capitol Arts Centre: Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple (Oct. 27-30); and concert Taking the A Train Uptown Manhattan - Harlem (Nov. 7-10).
