WHAT: Tapestry Opera, Canada’s leading contemporary opera company presents Oksana G., the story of a young Ukrainian woman lured into the world of sex slavery by a human trafficker who becomes obsessed with possessing her, body and soul.
When Oksana escapes to a refugee shelter in Italy, she finds herself entangled in a complex love triangle between the recruiter and the Canadian priest who runs the shelter.
With its fierce contemporary heroine, Oksana G. challenges operatic conventions of victimhood and disentangles human trafficking from media confusion with prostitution. Written by renowned composer Aaron Gervais and award-winning playwright Colleen Murphy. Directed by Tom Diamond and Jordan de Souza. Starring: Keith Klassen, Adam Fisher, Krisztina Szabó, and Ambur Braid as “Oksana G.”
