Stage Door News
The 10th annual Next Stage Theatre Festival (NSTF) opens tonight at Factory Theatre and runs until January 15, 2017.
Way back in 2007, Chuck McEwen, then Executive Director of Toronto Fringe, noticed that successful Fringe productions didn’t have anywhere to go after the summer Fringe Festival. There needed to be a step in between the Fringe and professional gigs. With that in mind, NSTF was born.
After 10 years, the Next Stage Theatre Festival has provided a “next step” for dozens of artists. Launching the careers of artists such as Brendan Gall (now supervising producer of NBC’s Blindspot in LA), Nicolas Billon and Jordan Tannahill (Governor General Award winning playwrights), Morro and Jasp (much-loved Dora winning clown duo) and many, many more. Shows in the festival have been nominated for a surprising 25 Dora Mavor Moore Awards.
This year, the indie spirit is as high as ever, featuring artists such as the ones that appear in this fun, “Fringey” video: https://vimeo.com/197791924
