Stage Door News
For the last 7 years, we have been engaging new audiences in Toronto by presenting shows from abroad performed in languages other than English. Over the past seven years we have presented shows in Hindi, Urdu, Portuguese, Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew and now - in Japanese.
We are delighted to announce our presentation of renowned Japanese company Theatre Office Natori's Godot Has Come, presented in association with fu-GEN Theatre Company. What would happen if Godot, the mysterious unseen character in Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, actually turned up? A homage to Beckett, this comic – often slapstick – sequel is performed in Japanese with projected English translations. Written by renowned absurdist playwright Minoru Betsuyaku and directed by K. Kiyama, Toronto is one of only three stops on this limited North American tour.

"...it is fundamental that Godot will never appear. In today’s Japan, people only rarely have a chance to experience something in reality, but they get a huge amount of information from different sources, so they may understand things intellectually without having any actual experience of them. Therefore, I thought that if Godot came today, people would not be able to meet him or experience the drama of the meeting."
- Minoru Betsuyaku, playwright
