Chilina Kennedy, Broadway’s longest-running Carole King in Beautiful, stopped by the Playbill studios to talk all things Broadway with Tyler Mount. On the newest episode of the vlog, the Kingston, Ontario, native opens up about playing one of her icons, what it was like meeting her, and her favourite moments from the show.
Kennedy took over from original Beautiful star Jessie Mueller in spring 2015, staying with the musical through March 2017. After headlining the North American tour in Toronto, she returned to the show on Broadway September 12 .
With a book by Tony and Academy Award nominee Douglas McGrath, direction by Marc Bruni and choreography by Josh Prince, Beautiful features an array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin/King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil. The show plays the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.
Kennedy made her Broadway debut as Mary Magdalene in the 2012 revival of Jesus Christ Superstar.
