Tarragon Theatre announces the return of smash hit Mustard, set to open at Tarragon Theatre this January. The play written by Kat Sandler, one of Toronto’s hottest and most prolific young playwrights, and directed by Ashlie Corcoran is on stage in Tarragon Theatre’s Extraspace from January 3 - 28 (opening January 4).
Mustard still lives under Teenage Thai’s bed, while her recently-separated mother looks for solace at the bottom of a wine glass. Mustard is a twisted fairy tale about an imaginary friend’s quest to stay in our world; a whimsical story about growing up, losing innocence, and our unrelenting quest for love.
The darkly comic fairytale about a mother and daughter navigating life after divorce returns to Tarragon after its celebrated world premiere in Tarragon’s 2015/2016 season.
“We’re so excited to welcome back Mustard and offer our audiences another chance to see this whimsical production” notes Richard Rose, Tarragon Theatre’s Artistic Director.
Mustard features Anand Rajaram (Artistic Director of @N@f@N@ and of Dishoom South Asian Performance Festival; THEATRE: Soulpepper, Stratford Festival, The Second City, Canadian Stage, VideoCabaret, Factory Theatre) reprising his Dora Award-winning title role alongside Sarah Dodd (Dora Award for Outstanding Performance for Marion Bridge; Communion, The Small Room at the Top of the Stairs), Rebecca Liddiard (Tarragon debut; TV: “Alias Grace”) and Tony Nappo (THEATRE: Tarragon’s The Real World?, God in Need of Help, The Golden Dragon, Canadian Stage, Factory Theatre, Crow’s Theatre, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre; TV: “Shoot the Messenger”), with newcomers Travis Seetoo (Tarragon debut; THEATRE: Shaw Festival, Stratford Festival, Ross Petty Productions, Thousand Islands Playhouse; DANCE: National Ballet of Canada) and Conrad Coates (Tarragon debut; THEATRE: Stratford Festival,TV/ FILM: “Defiance,” Tron: Legacy).
Written by Kat Sandler (Tarragon’s Canada Council Playwright in Residence, 2014 Tarragon Playwrights Unit, 2015 Dora Award-winner Outstanding New Play for Mustard; Artistic Director of Theatre Brouhaha) with direction by Ashlie Corcoran (Incoming Artistic Director of Arts Club Theatre Company, past Artistic Director of Thousand Islands Playhouse, Co-founder and Artistic Producer of Theatre Smash, Dora Award for Outstanding Production The Ugly One).
