To kick-start the New Year, Crow’s Theatre is thrilled to bring their smash 2016/2017 season-opener The Wedding Party, back to Streetcar Crowsnest for another uproarious run this January 2018.
The first play to open the doors of Streetcar Crowsnest in January 2016. The Wedding Party, which garnered rave reviews and sold out houses in its debut engagement, will be on stage January 2 – 20. The original cast returns for the hotly anticipated remount with one exception, acclaimed stage actress Jane Spidell will take on the roles originated by Kristen Thomson.
From the award-winning creators of the beloved play I, Claudia - Kristen Thomson and Crow’s Theatre Artistic Director Chris Abraham- The Wedding Party is a comedy about two families, a wedding, mistaken identities, and love, love, love! Take a seat ringside on the big day while an astonishing cast of the country’s leading actors including Jason Cadieux, Virgilia Griffith, Trish Lindström, Moya O’Connell, Tom Rooney, and Jane Spidell, hit the dance floor, drink too much and try to get along, again.
A play about a wedding in which the newly wedded couple never appear, The Wedding Party takes an honest and humorous look at the wedding ritual and the pitfalls inherent when two unique families come together…forever. Sharply observant, acidly funny and raw, The Wedding Party takes the veneer off ‘the most important day of your life’ in the way only Kristen Thomson can.
Crow’s Theatre Artistic Director Chris Abraham comments, “We were truly overwhelmed by the response we had to The Wedding Party last year and unfortunately found ourselves having to turn audiences away as the run sold out. There is so much joy in this show and so much laughter – it was a perfect show to open the theatre and kick off the New Year – so we decided to do it again.”
Abraham and the cast are joined by set designer Julie Fox, sound designer Thomas Ryder Payne, lighting designer Kimberley Purtell, video designer Zack Russell, and costume designer Ming Wong.
Crow’s Theatre also brings back True Crime in January, Stars’ frontman Torquil Campbell’s critically-acclaimed mind-twisting meditation on his obsession with Clark Rockefeller, storytelling, truth and lies.
Since premiering at Streetcar Crowsnest in April, True Crime has toured to Stratford and Prince Edward County, and has 2018 dates in Calgary (Vertigo Theatre, January 23 – 27) and Victoria (Belfry Theatre, March 8 – 10).
The Wedding Party will run January 2 – January 20 (Media night: January 5) at Streetcar Crowsnest (345 Carlaw Avenue) in the Guloien Theatre. Shows are scheduled Monday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m. with Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2:00 p.m.
True Crime will run January 16 – 20 (Media night: January 17) at Streetcar Crowsnest in the Scotiabank Community Studio.
Tickets are currently available for Crow’s 2017-2018 season with regular tickets starting at $25. Get online information and make ticket purchases at crowstheatre.com.
