This spring, eight Bad Dog players will improvise for 24 straight hours in the ultimate fundraising challenge! This battle royale will be raising funds for Bad Dog's Diversity & Inclusion Program. Bad Dog is raising funds for year two of Our Cities on Our Stages, a two-day symposium with a focus on better reflecting Toronto’s diverse voices on our unscripted comedy stages - set to take place on May 20 & 21 of this year. Participants will include artistic and administrative leaders in North America's improv comedy scene, thought-leaders from the Toronto Arts & Culture sector, and community participants.
The Show
This year our 24 hour players are Nina Adler, Andrew Bushell, Brittney Drysdale, Coko Galore (Yas Kween), Zohaib Khan, Talal Itani, Martha Stortz, Sean Tabares
Beginning at 7pm on Friday, March 10, we'll be putting on 12 two-hour improv shows with featured troupes & guests. Highlights include:
•The return of last year’s biggest hit, Craig Anderson's (Bad Dog Repertory Players) Hell Hour, where our hosts pushes the cast to the limit
•The wildly successful LGBTQ* comedy group, Kinsey Fail, joins our players on stage with director Anders Yates (Toronto, I Love You)
•We find out just how haunted the theatre really is with an improvised seance lead by Becky Johnson (The Sufferettes, Second City Mainstage)
•The Flirty Boys (Alessandra Vite, Alexandra Wylie, Allison Hogg and Ann Pornel), fresh from Sketchfest, make our marathoners improvise their way through their catalogue of sketches
•Things get heated at a real life family dinner hosted by Nicole Passmore (The One, Second City House Co.)
•We check in with Sarah Hillier (Second City Mainstage) and Andy Hull (Space Janitors), live, on-location via Skype in Los Angeles
•Hilarious queens of the keys, Flo & Joan (This Hour Has 22 Minutes) provide a pitch-perfect soundtrack to our player’s soporific struggle
•We challenge our tired marathoners to hold their ground with the two most endearing types of scene-stealers: kids & dogs! Improviser parents bring their (soon-to-be-improviser) progeny and/or actual pups to play.
•The brilliant mind behind Elephant Empire & Cool School, Peter Stevens, takes the reins for an hour
•Songbuster featuring Stephanie Malek, Mattie Burns, Alexandra Hurley, Tom King (on keys) & more. Can our marathoners improvise a musical after more than 20-hours without rest?
How it Works
Before March 10 our performers will raise funds to get them to their 24 hour fundraising goal. For every $15 donated by the public, each performer must improvise for one hour. Then, beginning at 7pm on Friday, March 10, we're pushing our players to the limits, and sweetening the pot with a 50/50 draw for the audience. Audience members can choose to help or hinder the players by buying them gifts (coffee! naps!) or obstacles (calisthenics! questions-only for an hour!) throughout the show.
