Bear Productions is proud to present the return engagement of the hit play from the 2013 Toronto Fringe Festival, The Retirement Plan, written by Robin Pond and directed by Brian Kennington, playing at The Red Sandcastle Theatre from April 26th to April 29th. Press opening - Thursday, April 27th at 8:00 pm.
The play features returning performers, husband and wife, Brian and Ray Kennington, and their son, Eddy Kaye (Speare, Charlie). Rounding out the cast are Trevor Ketcheson (State of Women, Charlie) and Alyssa Blasak (Shevil, The Musical).
The Retirement Plan is a dark macabre comedy that received sold out houses and great reviews (A GEM! The Charlebois Post) and a PICK AT THE TORONTO FRINGE!
What would you do to ensure a comfortable retirement? Would you agree to a fixed end-date retirement, or live in financial uncertainty? George Mitchell, and his wife, Marta, want to retire in comfort, but are faced with the dilemma of outliving their finances and dealing with their grown children, Gerry and Julie. Enter Mortimer Steen, an insurance agent, who provides George and Marta with a plan, ensuring them financial security for the rest of their lives. But, this plan comes with a condition that gives George and Marta more than they bargained for. The play builds in tension and humour, leading to a deadly climax! Behind all the comedy there is the ever-lingering question of the timely right-to-die legislation. Robin Pond’s script tackles the question, bringing the issue to the forefront, but in a very accessible and humorous manner.
