Philip Ridley was born in the East End of London where he still works and lives. He is not only a playwright but is also an artist, children’s author and screen writer. His plays are regularly staged all over the world and he has been described as one of the most innovative living British playwrights and a genius. He has won numerous awards including Time Out Award, Critics Circle and the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for best playwright.
John Shooter is a British producer and director and the founder of Precisely Peter Productions. Since arriving in Toronto four years ago, he has produced and directed, Abigail’s Party by Mike Leigh, Talking Heads part 1 & part 2 by Alan Bennett, Brimstone and Treacle by Dennis Potter, The Pitchfork Disney and Radiant Vermin by Philip Ridley.
Tonight with Donny Stixx is a one-man show. It follows the story of Donny (Stixx) who has dreamed of becoming famous, adored and a social media sensation. He was given a box of magic tricks as a child and so decides that he will one day be a world famous magician. The only problem is that Donny does not have any real talent. People tend to laugh at him, not with him. He dreams of having his own TV show (Tonight with Donny Stixx) where a studio audience will be able to ask him questions. But only the questions he wants to hear. As the story unfolds, Donny commits an unthinkable act. The media describes him as the most hated boy alive. But to Donny, he’s achieved all that he ever wanted.
