Mixed Company Theatre is bringing back their popular Forum Theatre workshops this July! Theatre for Action is our week-long series of intensive workshops conducted by renowned Forum Theatre creator and Mixed Company Theatre Artistic Director Simon Malbogat. The techniques of Forum Theatre facilitation are transferable to a wide range of community engagement arts initiatives. Theatre for Action participants will receive the skills to become better facilitators, artists, community leaders, and more socially-aware educators.
About Forum Theatre
A UNESCO recognized educational tool for implementing social change, Forum Theatre is a community-focused, facilitated style of theatre designed to address social issues and inspire action for change. In Forum Theatre productions, professional artists, and community members create a universal story together, depicting a social issue of concern to the participating community. The community audience is then invited onto the stage to stage “an intervention” where they can either replace the role of an actor or suggest a change to the story for the better. Forum Theatre give communities the agency to develop their own grassroots solutions and the ability to envision the positive outcomes of implementing change.
Introduction to Forum Theatre
Suitable for all ages and abilities, this introductory workshop is designed to strengthen community activation and trust-building through interactive exercises developed from the fundamentals of creating Forum Theatre images. In this workshop, participants will hone their storytelling and image building techniques and explore how different styles of presenting multiple perspectives can aid positive problem solving.
