Festival Players of Prince Edward County is thrilled to announce the casting for the 2017 Summer Repertory Season. The impressive list of talent features award-winning actors from across Canada including veteran actor/director/composer and lyricist Bruce Dow (winner of two Dora Awards,12 seasons at Stratford Festival, and four productions on Broadway including Jesus Christ Superstar); acclaimed actress, producer and writer, Anna Hardwick (film and television work include The Kennedys: After Camelot, Alejandro Gonzáles Inñárritu’s Oscar-winning Birdman, Cosmopolis, Good Witch and Lost Girl); celebrated comedic actor Connor Thompson (winner of the Ed Mirvish Entrepreneur Award for People Suck, Dora Award-nomination for Second City’s Sixteen Scandals and winner of the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Play/Revue); actor Alex Furber (Broadway World Award-winner for his role in Mirvish’s production of War Horse, star of NAC’s Anne and Gilbert and TV work including Murdoch Mysteries and Flashpoint) and actor/director Dylan Trowbridge (My Theatre Award-winner for Taking Care of Baby, Dora Award-nominated for Return, director of multiple Dora Awards for The Harrowing of Brimstone McReedy) among other extremely talented artists round out the season.
Festival Players is also pleased to officially announce one of the locations of this summer’s outdoor performances. The Festival Players’ Village Tent, will be located at 243 Main Street Wellington, on the lawn of the Wellington United Church. This dreamlike setting along the gorgeous shoreline of Lake Ontario is located in the heart of the busy village of Wellington and will host two productions: Hippolyta’s Wedding: A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare and Stones in His Pockets by Marie Jones.

The highly acclaimed Jeannette Lambermont-Morey (My Theatre Award-winner for My Child, nominated for two Dora Awards for her productions of Twelfth Night and Digging for Fire, eight seasons at Stratford Festival) directs an exceptionally talented cast in what is one of William Shakespeare’s most popular romantic comedies, reimagined as Hippolyta’s Wedding: A Midsummer Night’s Dream for this unique County production. Taking place in a fictional town of Athens, Ontario on the day of Hippolyta’s wedding rehearsal, Bruce Dow takes his turn as Bottom, Anna Hardwick stars as both Hippolyta and Titania, Connor Thompson as Oberon and Theseus, Alex Furber as Lysander, Dylan Trowbridge as Puck and Phillip Strate, Geoffrey Armour (Driftwood Theatre’s Taming of the Shrew) is Quince, Gabriella Albino (Penelopiad, As You Like It, A Midsummer Night’s Dream) as Hermia, Neil Babcock (Dreams, Absolute Alice and from TV Degrassi: Next Class, HBO’s Grey Gardens alongside Drew Barrymore) as Demetrius, Philip Knox (Marysburgh Mummers, Prince Edward Community Theatre) as Egeus and Starveling, Siobhan O’Malley (Love and Information, Spring Awakening, Mrs. Givings in the Next Room) as Helena, and Luke Kimball takes on his first professional acting role as Flute. Bruce Dow turns to directing with this charming adaptation of Stones in his Pockets, a multiple award-winning comedy that centres around the extras in a Hollywood film - all townspeople of a small rural Irish town where the film is being shot. Jeannette Lambermont-Morey will be at the helm, directing Mary’s Wedding, a moving and romantic story set in rural Alberta and beautifully written by Canadian playwright, Stephen Massicotte.
