Cineplex Events proudly announces that the 2017-18 season of The Met: Live in HD, the award-winning high-definition live cinema simulcasts from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, will launch in theatres across Canada on October 7, 2017. For the 12th consecutive year, opera-lovers will be able to experience 10 brilliant Live in HD transmissions from the Met’s stages at the Lincoln Centre in New York City. This year, the series features five new productions along with five star-studded revivals with some of the world’s leading artists. First introduced in December 2006, the series now airs in more than 71 countries on six continents and on over 2,000 screens, including 110 Cineplex theatres in communities large and small across Canada.
The season kicks off with a new production of Bellini’s Norma. Directed by Sir David McVicar, conducted by Carlo Rizzi and starring one of the world’s most acclaimed sopranos, Sondra Radvanovsky. Tickets to this popular series go on sale on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 12:01 a.m. local time. SCENE members will get advanced access to tickets on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. local time.

Performance Details:
The Met Live in HD 2017-18 season will feature the series’ first broadcast of Bellini’s Norma starring Caledon, Ontario area resident, Sondra Radvanovsky in the title role; the Met premiere of Thomas Adès’s The Exterminating Angel; Rossini’s Semiramide, which has not been staged at the Met in 25 years; Verdi’s tragedy Luisa Miller starring Sonya Yoncheva and Plácido Domingo; and the Met premiere of Massenet’s Cendrillon, starring Joyce DiDonato in the title role. In addition to the productions new to Live in HD, audiences can see the Met’s new staging of Puccini’s Tosca, starring Sonya Yoncheva and Vittorio Grigolo; Mozart’s Così fan tutte set in the 1950s in Coney Island, with an ensemble cast including Tony Award winner Kelli O’Hara. The season will also feature Mozart’s full-length German opera Die Zauberflöte, directed by Julie Taymor and conducted by the Met’s Music Director Emeritus James Levine (the abridged version of The Magic Flute was the first Live in HD transmission in the series); Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, starring Pretty Yende in her first Met performance as the spirited Adina with Matthew Polenzani reprising Nemorino, and Puccini’s La Bohème featuring Sonya Yoncheva and Michael Fabiano as the young Parisian lovers, Mimì and Rodolfo.

•Luisa Miller, Verdi – April 14, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. ET

All live operas will be Saturday matinee performances, transmitted directly from the Met stage, and encore performances are scheduled throughout the season at select locations on Saturday afternoons and Monday evenings.
