The Bad Dog Theatre Company brings the action, intensity and deliciously terrible dialogue of the quintessential summer blockbuster from the big screen to the live stage, completely unscripted. Explosions, car chases, catch phrases and slick moustaches - some of Canada’s funniest improvisers will perform genre-bending cinematic homages August 14 to 19, 2017 at the Bad Dog Comedy Theatre.
This year marks the return of the Summer Blockbuster Audience Favourite Award: a cash reward of $300 which includes a marquee run in Bad Dog Theatre’s 2017 season. Last year’s award went to Leigh Cameron’s Epic Bedtime, which had a sold out run in the theatre’s past season, the year before it went to Evany Rosen and Kayla Lorette for their smash hit Network Notes, which has since graced the cover of Now Magazine and become a monthly sell-out show at the theatre.
2017 Festival highlights include:”
•Becky Johnson and Kayla Lorette, performing A Doom of One’s Own as their internationally celebrated duo, The Sufferettes.
•Inspired by The L Word, The L.O.L. Word, a queer romantic comedy from Julia Friesen and Monica Garrido.
•Toronto comedy favourites Tony Ho bring their signature brand of dark comedy to the stage with Runaways.
•Actual Jeopardy, test your intellectual ability with a very earnest version of the beloved show, hosted by Bad Dog veterans Jan Caruana and Adam Cawley.
•Two hilarious offerings from Canadian Screen Award winner Alice Moran: Law &/or Order and St. Sebastian's School for Melancholy Boys featuring Alastair Forbes, Kirsten Rasmussen, Paloma Nunez, Anders Yates, Christy Bruce, and Kris Siddiqi.
•The multitalented and always entertaining Henri Fabergé Fruits present Convince Me, Otherwise, a British quiz show with a wild twist.
•One full night of reality show realness featuring Dance Moms: Improvised, America’s Next Top BLANK, and Drag Race Untucked.
•Angelina’s Kids asks, “What happens when Hollywood gets diverse?” An improvised exploration of the marginalized voices within classic films featuring Alia Rasul, Coko Galore, Daphney Joseph, Andrea Marston, Zohaib Khan, Foad HP, Aliya Kanani, Patricia Taborda, Celeste Yim, and Carol Zoccoli.
