Starting with a small group of people and expanding to the population of Earth, Cloud tells of humanity's discovery of a practical collective consciousness – a more efficient internet, where files are shared in real time, directly to the brain - “the Cloud”. Not just audio and visuals, but thought files, emotion files, tactile files. What does empathy mean when it is immediately informed by another human’s real-time experience? What does that do to love? To hate? Can we still disagree once our entire life experience is unified? Won't it get lonely when we're all one?
In today’s social climate, public and private lives are intertwining and societal issues are becoming political issues. Cloud examines how this affects our understanding of love, sex, monogamy, and what it means to be special.
Cloud will receive its world premiere at Artscape Sandbox, and will feature an outstanding ensemble cast including Anand Rajaram (Dora Award - Outstanding Performance – Mustard, Tarragon; Dora Nomination - Outstanding Performance, Ensemble – The 39 Steps, Soulpepper), Tim Fitzgerald Walker (The Queen’s Conjurer, Circlesnake Productions; Edmond, ROTC/Storefront), Jonas Widdifield (Dora Award, Outstanding Performance, Ensemble - La Chasse Galerie, ROTC/Storefront), Khadijah Roberts-Abdullah (Dora Nomination – Outstanding Performance, Ensemble - Prince Hamlet, Why Not Theatre), G. Kyle Shields (Dora Nomination – Outstanding Performance, Ensemble - Tough Jews, Spadina Avenue Gang/Storefront), Alexander Plouffe (Shove it Down My Throat, Pandemic/Buddies), and debuting Toronto newcomer Ally Caruso (The Crucible, The Troubadours).
This interdisciplinary production will feature choreography by Ashleigh Powell and fight direction by Nate Bitton as well as set and costume design by Lindsay Dagger Junkin, sound design and original composition by Andy Trithardt, and lighting design by Melissa Joakim in addition to prerecorded and live projection. Performances run from October 20th – November 5th.
