Toronto Masque’s Theatre’s annual winter visit to the beautiful Enoch Turner Schoolhouse is one of the most popular and treasured events on our season calendar. This season features a classic TMT pairing: The Peasant Cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach and All the Diamonds: Songs Inspired by the Night Sky.
Sung in English and starring some of Canada's leading performers, the boisterous The Peasant Cantata draws on the popular tunes of Bach's time and features a courting couple who are very much at home in the tavern where they sing lustily and celebrate. Love, sex, and complaining about taxes -- as popular in 1742 as they are today!
All the Diamonds is an intimate cabaret performance, led by Patricia O’Callaghan and supported by a top-notch band, performing songs drawn from across the ages, with a spotlight on some of Canada’s great repertoire including music by Bruce Cockburn, Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell.
Classic and contemporary. Boisterous and contemplative. Formal and informal. A perfect evening with TMT.
The evening features: Patricia O’Callaghan, soprano; Giles Tomkins, baritone; Marion Newman, mezzo soprano; Larry Beckwith, tenor and violin; and Christopher Bagan, harpsichord and piano. In the second half they will be joined by: Andrew Downing, double bass; John Gzowski, guitar; Ed Reifel, drums; and Martin Julien, actor.
