Award-winning Another Brick In The Wall: The Opera, is a revolutionary opera based on Pink Floyd’s legendary 1979 album, Roger Waters' distinguished work, The Wall. A gripping story, innovative video projections, and a thrilling score transform the iconic album into a psychological operatic drama, perfect for opera-goers and rock fans alike.
The most powerful lyrical experience reunites Julien Bilodeau, composer of the new opera vision of work; and Dominic Champagne, director of this monumental 80s music endeavour. This timeless work, offered in an operatic adaptation, seemed ideal for an approach worthy of the theme. Soloists, chorus singers, orchestra and a team of exceptional design professionals will descend upon Toronto’s Sony Centre for Performing Arts, and infuse the work of Roger Waters’ The Wall with a new dimension.
Through the staging of the feelings of insanity and insulation of the main character Pink, The Wall represents the difficulties of a whole generation confronted with the destruction of its dreams and the world. The Wall is a psychological drama inspired by Roger Waters' life. Pink realizes that he has also consented to the events that made him who he is. This fall is a celebration of free will, of libertarian optimism, of the hope for a break from a loss of common sense and lack of solidarity. Pink's alienation and isolation, as the main character, in addition to the difficulties facing his entire generation regarding disillusionment, find a vehicle for expression in the total art form that is the opera.
Another Brick in The Wall: The Opera boasted a wildly successful world premiere in Montréal to sold-out audiences, drawing close to 29,000 spectators—record attendance for the Opéra de Montréal. Critically-lauded, generating infectious enthusiasm internationally, the U.S. premiere followed at the Cincinnati Opera this past July 2018 was the most successful presentation in 98 years’ history of the company.
The highly anticipated return to Canada is most fitting to take place in Toronto next Fall.
