Low Rise Productions and Leroy Street Theatre, supported by The Storefront Theatre, are teaming up to bring you not one….but two
world premieres by Canadian icon, George F. Walker!
Her Inside Life
and
Kill the Poor
complete the
Parkdale Palace Trilogy
which began last fall with a critically acclaimed and sold out run
of
The Chance.
This exciting and hilarious double bill runs from Oct 27th to
November 18th 2018 at indie hotspot The Assembly Theatre. It
features a thrilling mix of Canadian theatre stalwarts
including
Catherine Fitch, Ron Lea, Tony Munch,
and
Janet Bailey,
and indie movers and shakers
Anne van Leeuwen, Lesley Robertson
and
Craig Henderson.
Led by long time Walker collaborators Andrea Wasserman and Wes
Berger this double bill promises to be a night out at the
theatre you won’t soon forget.
Set in the same low rise apartment building as
The Chance, Her Inside Life
and
Kill the Poor
open new doors to the very human struggles of those that live
there. George F. Walker, member of the Order of Canada and
recipient of the Governor General’s Award in Performing Arts for
Lifetime Artistic Achievement, has consistently shown us the heart
and the humour in the stories of the downtrodden and these new
plays are no exception.
Directed by Andrea Wasserman,
Her Inside Life
introduces us to
Violet (Gemini award winner - Catherine Fitch) who is medicated and
on house arrest learning to negotiate with her social worker Cathy
(Gemini Nominee - Janet Bailey) and her daughter (Lesley
Robertson). When a man she thought she had killed (Tony Munch) is
released from prison she sees a chance to show everyone that she is
in fact, as she has long insisted: not crazy. An oddly
heartwarming story about coming to terms with the truth: of your
past and your present.
Wes Berger, long time Walker collaborator, directs
Kill the Poor.
A traffic accident, a death, a police investigation, a gift from a
suspicious stranger, and a drug dealer down the hall. A young
working class couple (Anne van Leeuwen and Craig Henderson) ,
struggling to keep their heads above water, are now in a situation
which threatens to throw them into dangerous free fall. Good thing
their apartment building’s custodian (Gemini nominee - Ron Lea) is
a disbarred lawyer willing to do some very extreme things to help
them out. If only they could remember to lock the
door.
Her Inside Life

Kill the Poor
