"Theatre Born Between's first workshop presentation of Vitals in Paprika Festival was utterly gripping - you could feel the audience collectively leaning in to the harrowing story. Director Bryn Kennedy and performer Lauren Wolanski expertly orchestrated the tension and humour in this riveting story of public service, radical empathy, and resilience. You could feel the air in the room shift.” - Ali Joy Richardson | Artistic Producer, Paprika Festival
Theatre Born Between takes on Vitals by Rosamund Small as their first full-scale production. Originally produced by Outside the March in 2014, Vitals explores the life of Anna, who meets people on the worst day of their lives. As a paramedic working in Toronto, her daily experience is life or death and every call she receives is an emergency. But as the distinction between professional trauma and personal tragedy becomes blurred, Anna suddenly finds herself fighting for her own life.Theatre Born Between first presented a workshop production of Selections from Rosamund Small's Vitals at the 2018 Paprika Festival. Directed by Theatre Born Between co- founder, Bryn Kennedy.
“In Vitals, we play witness as Anna fights for her choices, fights for her career and fights for herself. Rarely do we get to see a female character explored so thoroughly and with such thought, as we do in this play, which creates a visceral intimacy that I am excited to explore. We are just mere feet from Anna, inches from her mind, as she shares her innermost thoughts, sometimes with caution, and, on occasion, with abandon. And despite having worked on this play for months and read the text more times than I can count, her words still hits me like a punch to the gut every time.
We at Theatre Born Between are excited to invite you to join us on this journey into Anna’s mind as she chooses whether or not she is worth saving.” - Bryn Kennedy, Director and Co-Founder
