Are you unable to put your phone down? Do you rely on Siri to fetch the most insignificant information, things that surely you could remember last week? Moose + Moa Theatre Company's GHOSTING premieres November 29 – December 9 at Tarragon's EXTRASPACE, and asks you to fall down the technological rabbit hole of screen obsession.
Leave your phones on this time. You won’t want to miss a thing.
“Ghosting explores what technology can do to human relationships, so we must use technology to tell this story,” says JEREMY POWELL, Technical Director. “We have the opportunity to create on stage what a tech heavy future might look like. By using every scenographic technique we have, from projection mapping, to an integrated sound and video design, and even 3D printing, we can transport our audience into the world that Mike (and Apple) has crafted for us.”
In the near future, a woman grapples with her failing relationship and troubled son by seeking the help of her oldest friend: her iPhone. GHOSTING, the debut work from writer MICHAEL RUDERMAN, is a technological memory play, exploring a mid-life crisis through a quarter-life crisis, the infiltration of personal computers into our emotional lives, and humanity’s shared hidden desires that can turn us into ghosts.
Written by MICHAEL RUDERMAN, directed by ELIZABETH SAUNDERS and featuring SARAH DELLER, INGRID DOUCET, CHANAKYA MUKHERJEE, BROOKE PALSSON, SUZANNE ROBERTS SMITH, and PARMIDA VAND, GHOSTING is an immersive look into technological addictions, love, and wondering if you are ever truly happy enough.
“I was lying in bed, feeling lonely, so I scrolled through my phone; I felt better. The simple moment struck me, how this technology had such an intimate place in my life, that holding my phone can be as comforting as holding hands.” MICHEAL RUDERMAN, Playwright. “Ghosting became about the quiet cultural pull away from love, towards success.”
