Three plays for three actors! The Theory of Accelerated Hotness is a collection of three brand-new short plays by Toronto playwright Andrew Batten mashed together into a single theatrical experience. Actors Anne McMaster, Chris Peterson and Carley Thorne integrate three different stories into a distinct performance that explores issues of power, privilege and perspective. Moving effortlessly back and forth between plot lines, switching characters in an instant, and all the while continually questioning their own roles as artists, these talented performers present a collection of unrelated stories that nevertheless all share similar themes, including how we respond to the exercise of power, how those in power respond to voices less heard, and how we challenge a world view that seems to have no room for us. Andrew Batten’s latest play Or Not To Be, and stage managed by Carinna Cojeen, The Theory of Accelerated Hotness previews Thursday, Nov. 22, and opens Friday, Nov. 23 at 8:00 pm at The Assembly Theatre, 1479 Queen St. W.

Artistic Team
Julia Haist (Director) is thrilled to be directing once again with Glass
Hammer Productions after directing the January 2018 production of Or Not to Be by Andrew Batten. A graduate of Humber’s Theatre Performance program, Julia has also performed and directed with such companies as Alumnae Theatre and Lower Ossington Theatre. Her solo show This is Not She premiered at the Toronto and Montreal Fringe Festivals in 2017, and was nominated for Outstanding Solo Performance by My Entertainment World. She recently graduated from Second City’s Conservatory program and can be seen performing improv and sketch comedy at various venues throughout Toronto.
Anne McMaster - (Actor 1/ Andrea / Angie / Linda) Anne is thrilled to be a part of Theory of Accelerated Hotness! Anne is a comedian and you can catch her with her sketch troupe, Not Oasis, in her show Date Night Comedy: Totally Worth a Babysitter and in the LCBO. Other fun credits include On The Spot Improv in Montreal, The Improv Guild in Calgary, The Courtyard Playhouse in Dubai, The Second City’s Conservatory Program in Toronto and a YukYuk’s corporate gig in Bolton. Anne is a mom and highly skilled at stepping on Lego. @sheikamcmaster
Chris Peterson – (Actor 3 / Roy / Gauge / Dave) Chris couldn’t stand to keep himself off the stage for the entirety of 2018, so is grateful to have been asked to be part of this production. Chris previously worked onstage, with both Julia and Andrew, in Four Hours (Alumnae New Ideas Festival) and August:Osage County (Alumnae), respectively, and is thrilled to work with them in another of their talent facets. Other credits include Proof (Theatre Unblocked, produced by superwoman and current SM Carina), His Girl Friday (Bygone Theatre), Sorry, Wrong Number/The Hitchhiker (Plain Stage), and a number of Operation 24 performances with Unit 102.
Carley Thorne (Actor 2 / Wendy / Rebecca / Maddy) is a Toronto-based comedian/actor/writer originally from Annapolis, Maryland. She performs around the city with her improv troupes Worst Behaviour and LadyPants, and has guested on shows such as $15 Beer Beer Comedy Show (Toronto's Best) and is a recent graduate of The Second City Conservatory program (I Can't Believe It's Not Better!). Carley is also a member of the sketch troupes Good Judy and RIOT. Some of her acting credits include: #Interns (SupesLegit productions), and Coat Check (Trophy Husbands).
Carina Cojeen (Stage Manager) is deeply involved in the Toronto theatre scene, taking on various roles on- and off- stage. Last fall she stage-managed Natalie Frijia's This Will Be My Last Transmission (director: Ara Glenn-Johanson) at Alumnae Theatre's FireWorks festival. As an actor, she regularly attends the Toronto Cold Reads series and recently had the honour of performing one of the short scenes from the RBC Playwright's Award nominees at the Playwright's Guild of Canada Tom Hendry Award nomination ceremony, organized by the Sing For Your Supper reading series. Now Carina is starting to work as a film PA/AD. Enjoy the show!
Andrew Batten (Playwright) is a reformed lawyer and recovering teacher who writes in Toronto. His previously produced plays include Romeo and Rosaline, The House of the Rising Sun, Even As Also I Am Known, Jellied Salad and Or Not To Be. Andrew is a former playwright in residence at the Blyth Theatre. His latest script, The Four Blisters; A Comedy, opens at The Commons Theatre on April 12, 2019.
