The debut production of “Now I am Dead Productions,” this play is the first of a trilogy of Meta biographical productions. These productions will explore the lives of famous literary and cultural figures in original scripted productions that shape them as flawed but realized humans.
This satirical comedic tragedy comes from playwright Liam Edward Grunté and a team of Ontario theatre talent to bring this surreal satirical but also grounded vision of William Shakespeare. Not of his plays nor his reputation. Rather just him as a friend, him as a father, him as a husband, him as a human being. Seeing this vision through a combination of music, slapstick comedy and original iambic verse.
“What is my legacy?” “How do I keep going on?” “How did I wake up in a barn?” These are just a few of the questions that William Shakespeare finds himself in our Meta biographical tale. Starting from his life as a rock star playwright to his passionate love with Anne Hathaway and his final moments. Our tale invites the audience to share in his misadventures but also in his own turmoil that reflects the questions that humans find themselves asking of their own life. In fair Toronto we share our scene because it is indeed a Most Humorous and Tragic Tale of William Shakespeare’s Shakespeare.
Guided by director and playwright Liam Grunté, the Now I am Dead Productions cast includes: Courtney Keir, Isaac Lloyd, Chloe Nava, Cole Larson, David Carcasole, Joseph Chan, Anna Mallard, Austin Khemrag, Luca Brunato, Nikolai Afanasev. The creative crew includes: Alexander Franks (Producer), Andrea Castaneda (Stage Manager), Robert Brown (Fight Choreographer), Evan Sokolowski (Music Director), Milena Fera (Technical Director)
