Artistic Director Graham Abbey has announced their first wave of programming for their 2018 season which will include three shows in the summer and an exciting return to The Regent Theatre in Picton.
"I am thrilled to announce the first three titles of our 2018 season, bringing some of this country’s finest talents to perform at two of the County’s cherished venues." Commented Abbey, "These stellar productions, featuring a Tony Award winner, a Broadway veteran, and an off-broadway and West End smash hit, mark the first wave of our 2018 programming, and will set the table for exciting announcements in the coming weeks, including productions at our newly designed intimate Studio Theatre in Wellington."
The 2018 season kicks off in July with a one-night-only event: Brent Carver and the Art of Time Ensemble at The Regent Theatre on Friday July 6, 2018. Tony-award winning actor and singer Brent Carver joins the Art of Time Ensemble for an evening of song. Brent Carver's career has spanned the full range of performance possibilities, from Hamlet at the Stratford Festival to Molina in A Kiss of the Spiderwoman on Broadway. The Tony Award-winner's exceptional range is reflected in this hand-picked program which includes music by Jacques Brel, Leonard Cohen, Janis Ian, Lennon & McCartney and many more. Festival Players is pleased to work in association with The Regent Theatre to present the first and only Eastern Ontario performance of this hugely popular concert.
Festival Players is thrilled to welcome back Bruce Dow (who played Bottom in last summer’s Hippolyta’s Wedding: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and directed the hit show Stones in His Pockets) to perform his new show A Funny Proposition for three performances July 26-28, 2018 at the Wellington United Church. A master of the cabaret form, Dow’s one-man-musicals are heralded as fearless, intimate, and energetic. Join a poor, lost soul on the highway of life as he comes face to face with those events we can never expect. A Funny Proposition is funny, touching, and full of song.
The third announcement is a return to the Regent Theatre stage with a two-week long presentation of Blind Date, starring Christy Bruce, a Spontaneous Theatre creation by Rebecca Northan. Audiences will experience all the exhilaration and excitement of new love as Mimi goes on a blind date with a different man every night – plucked right out of the audience. Straight from sold-out runs in New York, London’s West End, and Toronto, this fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants fusion of clown, improv, theatre, and social experiment is sure to make you fall in love with Mimi and celebrate her audience-member-turned-Romantic-Hero. Blind Date will run August 22nd to September 2nd, 2018, presented in association with The Regent Theatre Presents.
"Live theatre is an important component of The Regent Theatre's event presentation strategy and we are excited to partner with the Festival Players team to stage a run of the acclaimed Blind Date" said Neil Shorthouse, the Regent Theatre General Manager. "Brent Carver and The Art of Time Ensemble are truly an incredible concert experience. These two events will be 'must-see' for County audiences this summer."
Festival Players looks forward to making additional programming announcements in the Spring, including shows at their Studio on Main Street Wellington, and Graham Abbey's directorial debut with Festival Players.
