Following two hugely successful editions in 2014 and 2017, Breakin’ Convention is partnering with Civic Theatres Toronto and KeepRockinYou to deliver another edition of Open Art Surgery, this time at the Toronto Centre for the Arts!
Open Art Surgery is hip hop theatre dissected, examined and put under the microscope. It is about breaking down the fourth wall and showcasing raw talent and new work.
After spending a week working under the guidance of hip hop theatre aficionados Jonzi D and Crazy Smooth, our established and emerging artists present a brand new piece. B-Boys, B-Girls, poppers, lockers and house dancers showcase these works-in-progress to the audience who are then invited to give feedback. See it for the first time, hear their creative journey and witness cutting-edge hip hop theatre as it happens!
This year's Open Art Surgery participants include: Serouj “Midus” Aparahamian, Kalliane Brémault, Stephanie Caldeira, Johnathan Dela Cruz, Krystina Dejean, Sami “Slynks” Elkout, Bailey Eng, Kosi Eze, Mel Hart, Gabriela Jovian-Mazon, Jonathan Karpinski, Kevin Kong, Eric Liu, Cherokee Lynch and Karyin Qiu.
