Eric McCormack, one of Stratford’s most successful alumni, is returning to the Festival in October, to perform the lead role in a concert version of the world’s longest-running musical, The Fantasticks.
Mr. McCormack, who last year received the Stratford Festival Legacy Award, will take a break from taping his Emmy Award-winning television series, Will & Grace, to appear as El Gallo in The Fantasticks in Concert. This heartwarming story of a young couple, their bickering parents, a pair of veteran thespians and the dashing narrator who makes everything end happily has been a hit around the globe since its première in 1960, with unforgettable songs like “Try to Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.” Certain language and situations have been changed to reflect the evolving social awareness and attitudes of a 21st-century audience.
Running one day only – Tuesday, October 30, at 8 p.m. – the show will be performed in concert at the Avon Theatre by Mr. McCormack and members of the Festival company, directed by Richard Ouzounian (who directed Mr. McCormack as Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 1989), with musical supervision by Franklin Brasz, the Festival’s Director of Music.
Art of Time Ensemble returns for two fabulous events: Brent Carver and Steven Page
Brent Carver and the Art of Time Ensemble will be back for an encore after a hugely popular concert in 2017. The Tony Award-winning actor and singer will present a program of pop music, material from the American songbook and hits from musical theatre.
Brent Carver and Art of Time will be presented at the Festival’s Avon Theatre on Saturday, August 25, at 2 p.m.
Steven Page is also teaming up with the virtuosic performers of the Art of Time Ensemble. The concert will feature works by Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman, Radiohead, Barenaked Ladies, Elvis Costello and others, reinvented by some of the greatest minds in classical, pop and jazz, and delivered by a defining voice in contemporary rock.
Steven Page and Art of Time will be held at the Avon Theatre on Friday, July 13, at 2 p.m.
All three concerts are presented as part of the Stratford Festival Forum. Tickets are priced from $50 and are available through the box office at 1.800.567.1600 or online at www.stratfordfestival.ca.
The Stratford Festival’s 2018 season runs from April 17 to November 4, featuring The Tempest, The Comedy of Errors, Coriolanus, Julius Caesar, The Music Man, The Rocky Horror Show, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, An Ideal Husband, To Kill a Mockingbird, Napoli Milionaria!, Brontë: The World Without and Paradise Lost, along with more than 150 Forum events.
