Portia’s Julius Caesar is Ruff’s most ambitious project to date. This radical adaption keeps the assassination of Julius Caesar at the climax, however, Portia’s Julius Caesar flips the perspective and explores the political agency of the women of Caesar’s Rome while diving into themes of fertility, female friendship and the silencing of women. Roughly 50% of this piece is new writing by Kaitlyn Riordan (written in iambic pentameter) alongside scenes lifted from Julius Caesar and other Shakespearean plays.
Join us this summer to see a side of Shakespeare’s beloved Julius Caesar that you’ve never seen before…and meet some re-imagined characters who have been itching to have their voices heard.
