Youth violence prevention organization LOVE (Leave Out Violence) brings the globally recognized Youth Poetry Slam Festival, ‘Louder Than A Bomb’ (LTAB). This highly anticipated festival takes place at Daniels Spectrum on May 12th 2018 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m and after a night of serious competition, results in a Slam Team winner and cash prizes sponsored by DUCA Credit Union.
Finalists take the stage before the audience and the judges, including Canadian hip-hop legend Michie Mee, and Canadian spoken word pioneer Dwayne Morgan, will determine the winning Slam Team for Louder Than A Bomb Toronto. The top 4 teams that made it to finals have been curated and carefully selected from 16 schools across the city.
The night will also play host to Ryan Horne, DJ for home-grown battle rap empire King of The Dot and vogue dancing from Toronto’s vibrant House Ball scene, The House of Monroe. Celebrated beatboxer and YouTube sensation KiddBeatz and Dancers and Youtube influencer BizzyBoom will also be in attendance to witness the return of one of Toronto’s next biggest cultural events.
LTAB Program Manager and National Slam Poet champion Lishai Peel explains, "Louder Than A Bomb is giving young people in Toronto a way to connect deeply with their lived experience and invite people into their stories. It's really a bridge that connects disparate communities to each other through oral storytelling. In a sense, this medium, this festival, is more like a community organizing tool where young people from different highways and byways of Toronto learn about folks they may otherwise never have met."
The award-winning documentary ‘Louder Than A Bomb’ was featured on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) in 2011 showcasing the event that was held in Chicago. Founders of LTAB, Kevin Coval and Nate Marshall were featured in the documentary and In November of 2017, Coval and Marshall visited Toronto to welcome the festival to the city.
All proceeds of ticket sales will go toward LOVE, helping to grow and empower youth to become agents of change in their own lives and their communities. Louder Than A Bomb is supported by Ontario Arts Council, the McLean Foundation and Arbor Memorial.
