The Free Concert Series in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre is a unique opportunity to experience diverse artistic programming in what has become one of Toronto’s most exciting cultural hubs. Six inspiring series offer concerts, dance performances and engaging presentations that feature both up-and-coming young artists and established international stars. All performances are FREE to the public, with admission on a first-come, first-served basis. Concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early as late seating is not available.

Chamber Music Series
Best of Britain
The Rosebud String Quartet (Sheila Jaffé and Aaron Schwebel, violins; Keith Hamm, viola; and a special guest cellist) showcase the best of British repertoire for the string quartet, including a piece by living Welsh composer Huw Watkins.
World Music Series
Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa (Our Maliseet Songs)
Tenor and composer Jeremy Dutcher performs songs from his debut album, Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa (Our Maliseet Songs). Blending the tuneful melodies of his Wolastoq (Maliseet) First Nation roots into the music he creates, Dutcher explores composition, musical ethnography, and linguistic reclamation to create something entirely new.

Yom HaShoah: Holocaust Remembrance
In recognition of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), Canadian soprano Sara Schabas and pianist Geoffrey Conquer present a program that commemorates the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust and the heroism of survivors and rescuers. The program includes Another Sunrise by Jake Heggie, based on the life and work of Holocaust survivor Krystyna Zywulska.

Refuge
Canadian tenor and COC Ensemble Studio graduate Owen McCausland (Fisherman in the COC’s The Nightingale) and pianist Stephen Hargreaves present a collection of Romantic and early-modern art songs that centre on the theme of refuge.

Opera Out of the Box
Soprano Danika Lorèn and pianist Stéphane Mayer, COC Ensemble Studio artists, explore their creative side in a program that features original compositions, unique arrangements, and out-of-the-box interpretations.

Finishing the Hat
American tenor, Miles Mykkanen, makes his COC debut this spring in Robert Lepage’s The Nightingale and Other Short Fables. Joined by Sandra Horst on piano, they present a recital featuring songs both beloved and unexpected. Pulling from the operatic, art song, and musical theatre canon, the duo will dive into the depths of an artist’s soul and examine the balance between devotion to craft and ability to love another person.

Close Encounters in Vienna and Madrid
Travel to Vienna and Madrid with artists from Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra. Presenting a program of bright and charming classical gems for oboe and string trio, they will perform works from Johann Baptist Vanhal, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Luigi Bocherini.

UNBXBL 2
Apolonia Velasquez and Ofilio Portillo, the award-winning choreographers of Gadfly, Toronto’s urban dance phenomenon, present excerpts from UNBXBL 2 a mixed bill program which features two of their most requested works and two world premieres.

Collaborations
Singers from the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio and the Atelier Lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal join forces in a program of arias and ensembles.
