Don't Look Down Theatre Company is excited to present its Toronto production of Criminal Genius by George F. Walker, the first Preview is Thursday, May 3rd at 7:30 PM, with 5 performances until May 6th at Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace.
A restaurant is not set on fire. This poses a problem. Rolly and Stevie, two hapless petty crooks, have taken it upon themselves to change the plan. Unfortunately, plan-making is not something they're good at. Criminal Genius by George F. Walker brings a downtrodden and frantic enforcer, a determined but kidnapped cook, and two bickering brothers into one motel room, managed by a luckless drunk. With breakneck pacing, the hopeless ensemble yell, fight, escape, return, and generally cause problems for themselves. The absence of arson will prove to be the least of their worries.
Criminal Genius is produced by Toronto based Don't Look Down Theatre Company. This will be the first George F. Walker play produced by them, and they couldn't be more excited. This young Company is rapidly making a name for itself in the GTA. Founded just 2 years ago by Fanshawe College Graduates, they will share their 6th show at Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace, in Downtown Toronto.
Criminal Genius is one of the several plays that Director Cedric Martin workshopped with George F. Walker back in the fall. The show itself is much more than your average comedy. It deals with the human struggle of finding where you belong. All the characters in this play, like many of Walker's work, come from real people, people that you probably know from your own life. What makes it a brilliant comedy is the fictional scenario that they are all put in together.
“There is something just so natural and beautiful happening here.”
Says director Cedric Martin.
“The way the lines sit on all of these actors is just incredible.
It’s almost as if Walker was writing it for them.”
