The Wonder Show returns to The Social Capital Theatre for
their monthly show; this time highlighting an all
female-identifying line-up featuring some of the best comedians in
Toronto.
The Wonder Woman Show
will run on Tuesday, June 5th at 8pm on the second floor of The
Social Capital Theatre.
The Wonder Woman Show
is a solo comedy show like you’ve never seen before. Leave the mic
stand backstage because these performers don’t need it. Anything
goes at
The Wonder Woman Show
- from character monologues to puppetry to physical comedy, this
line-up is guaranteed to surprise and delight the audience. Go in
without any expectations other than big laughs.
Headlined by Kirsten Rasmussen, Canadian Comedy Award Winning
improviser and alumnus of The Second City Toronto Mainstage company
and hosted by Jessica Perkins, alumnus of The Second City House
Company. The show will also feature a wide array of comedians that
have written for CBC Comedy, performed across North America, and
produced and performed their own solo shows.
All proceeds from
The Wonder Woman Show
will be donated to
Sistering.
Sistering is a trans-inclusive 24/7 Drop In supporting women from
across Toronto who experience first hand the impact of poverty and
marginalization. They may be homeless or at risk of becoming
homeless. They are a diverse group, aged 16 to 80-plus; women with
mental health or substance use issues; women who have experienced
or are experiencing trauma and violence; immigrant and refugee
women; women with health issues and disabilities; and women without
legal status.
Sistering’s mission is to create a safe, non-judgmental space for
women who experience social isolation, trauma and violence,
discrimination, substance use, or are homeless or precariously
housed or need mental health support. Guided by principles of
feminism, anti-racism and anti-oppression, Sistering works in
collaboration with others in the community to change the social
conditions that endanger women’s welfare.
The agency provides basic necessities including three hot meals a
day plus soup and sandwiches overnight; showers and laundry
facilities; clothing; and Internet access plus support services
such as crisis intervention and trauma-informed counselling;
housing support; and onsite access to primary health care with
general practitioners, psychiatrists and a nurse.
