We are reaching out to share some exciting news with you! Today Opera Atelier and Mirvish Productions are announcing a partnership in 2019, which will include a move to the Ed Mirvish Theatre for our 2019 operas.
We are terrifically excited about this relationship. The move to the new venue offers us excellent acoustics, a much-needed larger stage, more ticket inventory, and access to Mirvish’s marketing power.
The timing is perfect: the move coincides with our anniversary production of Mozart’s Idomeneo (April 4-13, 2019), featuring superstar soprano Measha Brueggergosman’s return to the Toronto opera stage after a decade.
We look forward to opening our 2018-2019 season at the Elgin this October with our French Baroque double bill, Actéon & Pygmalion.
Please subscribe now to join us for this incredible upcoming season!

David Mirvish first began attending Opera Atelier productions in the early 1990s, and in 1996 he approached Marshall and Jeannette, offering to move the company into the Royal Alexandra Theatre as a special add-on to his season. His goal was to raise awareness of Opera Atelier and to help grow its audience base in Toronto. Opera Atelier’s subsequent seasons at the Royal Alexandra Theatre gave the company the stability to take risks and to mount North America’s first period productions of Mozart and later classical repertoire. Opera Atelier’s period productions of The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni and Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice were all realized under the Mirvish umbrella and enjoyed record attendance, providing Opera Atelier with the audience base to move to the Elgin Theatre, which has served as the company’s home since 1999.
Now, after more than two decades, Mirvish is providing Opera Atelier with a similar opportunity, moving the company into the Ed Mirvish Theatre just in time for our anniversary production of Mozart’s Idomeneo (April 4 – 13, 2019). We are thrilled to come full circle with Mirvish for this collaboration in 2019.
