When looking for a live professional theatre, downtown Toronto or Stratford probably comes first to mind. But you will hear more about Newmarket as we claim our place with a five-day national play festival featuring original Canadian content. The 10-minute play format allows Canadian playwrights at home and abroad to express, explore and experiment with diverse ideas. During the media rehearsal day, you will have the opportunity to experience the plays and speak with the actors, directors, Artistic Director, Michael Halfin and the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Director, Colin Service.
Situated in York Region, only a 40-minute drive north of Toronto, Newmarket has an award-winning Main Street and an up-and-coming arts and culture scene. It is a perfect weekend destination to enjoy the Newmarket National Ten Minute Play Festival, eclectic restaurants in historic Downtown Newmarket, free entertainment at Buskerfestival (July 28) and an opportunity to experience a nature walk along our beautiful walking trails at Fairy Lake Park.
