Acclaimed actor David Fox, an artist with a long history at Tarragon Theatre, was announced as a recipient of the Order of Canada for his achievements as an actor and for his contributions as a champion of Canadian theatre. Fox, along with all recipients will be invited to accept their insignia at a ceremony to be held at a later date.
Born in 1941 in Swastika, Northern Ontario, David began his theatre work at Kirkland Lake District High School with John Van Druten’s play I Remember Mama. From 1961 to 1963 David attended the University of Western Ontario performing in more productions that led to a career teaching English Composition and Literature and Theatre Arts in Brantford from 1963 to 1971. In 1967, David left teaching to begin a career in the professional theatre at Theatre Passe Muraille. Having previously met the then Artistic Director Paul Thompson while at the University of Western Ontario, David performed in his first production, the renowned The Farm Show. He later went on to perform in iconic theatre productions, 1837 – The Farmers Revolt, Les Maudit Anglais, and The Drawer Boy. David has performed in theatres across Canada from the Blyth Festival (Quiet in the Land and Another Season’s Promise) to Stratford Festival (An Enemy of the People) to Theatre Calgary (Jake and the Kid) to Nipissing Stage (King Lear) and the National Arts Centre (Buried Child). David has been nominated and won numerous theatre awards
(across Canada) and been honoured for his TV/Film performances.
David Fox has performed in noteworthy roles in numerous productions at Tarragon including An Enemy of the People, No Great mischief, The Golden Dragon, Forests, Scorched, If We Were Birds, Chimera and The Domino Heart.
Recently, David was awarded the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts Silver Ticket Award, bestowed upon an individual who has excelled in their career while also nurturing the development of Canadian theatre.
