Cineplex Events is pleased to announce that the 2018-19 season of The Met: Live in HD will launch in theatres across Canada on October 6, 2018. For the 13th consecutive year, opera-lovers will be able to experience 10 brilliant Live in HD transmissions from the Met’s stages at the Lincoln Centre in New York City.
The award-winning series features four new productions as well as six revivals starring some of the world’s leading artists. This year also marks the first season under the skillful baton of Canadian Yannick Nézet Séguin in his official role of music director for the organization. First introduced in December 2006, the series now airs in more than 71 countries on six continents and on over 2,200 screens, including 110 Cineplex and independent theatres in communities large and small across Canada.
Tickets to this popular series go on sale Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at 12:01 a.m. local time. SCENE members will get advanced access to tickets on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. local time.
“For the last 12 seasons, The Met Live in HD series has continuously delivered critically acclaimed and ground-breaking productions starring some of the world’s most talented performers,” said Brad LaDouceur, Vice President of Event Cinema, Cineplex. “Due to an increase in demand for the series from our patrons, this year we are dedicating additional screens to the program with the intention of expanding our reach even further.”

La Fanciulla del West, Puccini – starring Eva-Maria Westbroek and Jonas Kaufmann.

Marnie, Muhly/Wright – the Met premiere production starring Isabel Leonard and Christopher Maltman.

The Magic Flute – Julie Taymor’s perennial favourite, which returns to usher in the holiday season.

Adriana Lecouvreur, Cilea – a brand new production making its Live in HD debut, directed by Sir David McVicar and welcoming Anna Netrebko back to the stage in the title role.

Dialogues des Carmélites, Poulenc– welcoming Isabel Leonard back to the stage for the second time this season to star alongside Met legend Karita Mattila.

All live operas will be Saturday matinee performances, transmitted directly from the Met stage. Encore performances are scheduled throughout the season at select locations on Saturday afternoons and Monday evenings.
