“Goat Howl generates theatre and ritual experience. Whether working with text or devising collaboratively, at the core of every piece is a question about ourselves and about our community. We begin by probing, and investigating our position to the question, our will-to-know, and in performance affirm the unknowable. Only some things can have fixity – essays and academia will always write things down – but, not performance, the unfixed, unbounded, fluid knowing. Our answers are not answers but proposals, playing in time/space line/design in front of/with/around an audience. We open basic themes to new meaning-making together with our ensemble and with our audiences. We want to shake up sedimented meaning systems with our moving ensemble. We point the eye to the kaleidoscope forms created. Do we invite the audience to make meaning? Yes. Do we make meaning? Come and see.”
Every dinner party includes good food, light conversation, laughter and merry-making. Goat Howl Theatre invites you to join around a long table for a dinner party with all that and a creative twist. Enjoy a comforting meal while three ‘mad’ identified artists take you on a kaleidoscopic journey through the trials, tribulations and celebrations of living with mental health struggles. At any moment you might experience them singing sweet melodies, dancing in fury around the table, confronting inner bullies, frankly unpacking the effect mental health has on relationships with loved ones, and asking why it is important to make art about mental health. Break bread with the artists, enjoy a comforting meal, get to know them, and together, you will build bridges of understanding and alter negative stigma.
*** This show isn't for the faint of heart. Dinner With Madness involves unapologetic discussion about what its like to live with and/or experience depression, anxiety, mania, psychosis, hallucinations, OCD, suicidal thoughts, violence, eating disorders, and trauma. These artists are getting real about a topic often avoided during polite conversation. Come get real with us!***
