Loose Tea Music Theatre’s popular short-form, game-based improv opera show returns for another season following a successful run at Bad Dog Comedy Theatre and a tour of Ottawa and Hamilton in July. “Whose Opera is it Anyway?” played to sold out shows, enthusiastic audiences, and stellar reviews at the Music and Beyond Festival and Hamilton Fringe Festival, and now resumes monthly shows at the Social Capital, with shows on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 8:00 pm, except for December 2018, when the show will be on December 11th.
“Whose Opera Is It Anyway?” is a hilarious marriage of opera and improv comedy that has Loose Tea’s Second City-trained professional opera singers creating improvised mini-operas out of the craziest and most ridiculous things, including fortune cookie messages, commercial jingles or even someone’s text conversation. It’s all based on audience suggestions, and, because they’re improvised, each show is different from the last.
Whether you’re an opera fan, or never seen opera before, you won’t want to miss this unique show featuring Canada’s only improv opera group. “Whose Opera Is It Anyway?” takes the stuffiness out of opera and makes it accessible to anyone.
After this summer’s success, Loose Tea is now booking the show into festivals for the 2019 summer season. “Whose Opera Is It Anyway?” is hosted by Gregory Finney, with Natasha Fransblow at the piano and performers
Amanda Cogan, Gillian Grossman, Rachel Krehm, Erin Stone, and Michael York.
The Fall 2018 dates are October 23, November 27, and December 11, at 8:00 pm.
Tickets are $15 and available online through looseteamusictheatre.com, socap.ca, or at the door.
